Active learning in a non-formal environment

Active Learning in a Non-Formal Environment through the Program The Element of Play® – Community Centers, Hospitals, Social Services

The Element of Play® program uses the principles of active learning in an informal environment, creating conditions for natural and motivating development of children through play and interaction. Active learning means that children are actively engaged in the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through hands-on activities, collaboration, and exploration, not just through passive listening or observation. In the informal environment that the program provides, children learn by doing, which is more effective in developing critical thinking, creativity and social skills. Play situations stimulate curiosity and initiative, giving each child the opportunity to participate according to their needs and abilities, without pressure and formal restrictions. The Game Element® training is based on the following key elements:
  • Free and structured interaction: Children engage in playful activities that are designed to encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and the exchange of ideas in a group, while providing the necessary support and guidance from trained adults.
  • Experiential learning and social interaction: Play allows children to explore different social roles, experiment with new behaviors, and develop empathy and communication skills, which is especially important for their social integration.
  • Autonomy and motivation: The program encourages children to manage their own learning, make decisions, and express themselves, which increases their engagement and confidence.
Inclusive and adaptable environment: The Play® element adapts to the individual needs of each child, including those in vulnerable situations, providing equal access to participation and development. This approach to active learning in an informal environment makes the program an effective tool for early childhood development, supports social integration and builds skills that children will use throughout their lives.
